About the Artist

Lynita Motes - Biography

Lynita has been painting professionally for over 40 years. At the beginning of her career, she was trained by Jeannie Maddox, an internationally credited and acclaimed artist.  After graduating from Auburn University Lynita worked as an art director at a Birmingham, Alabama Advertising Agency.  Experience with design, layout, colors and composition further prepared her for a career in art.

A move to Jacksonville, Florida where she received her first portrait commission launched her career in portraiture. From that commission others followed. By this time Lynita was raising children, but she always had a client waiting on a commission. Lynita has painted portraits for clients around the country. Her passion in art seems to revolve around the human figure. Her love for people and art is a perfect blend in portraiture and figurative painting, with still life, which contains a "human element" being a close second.

She has shared her passion for art and creativity by teaching classes in her home studio for over a decade. Lynita continues to educate herself through workshops, books and conferences. The Studio at Green Pastures, a unique space to paint and provide instruction and inspiration to others, has been a dream of Lynita’s for the last several years since she and her husband Stewart purchased Green Pastures, a beautiful property where they host guests from all over the world. Lynita creates a fun and loving atmosphere everywhere she goes. Expect to laugh and have fun and leave with new friendships after attending a workshop or an event held at The Studio at Green Pastures.

Lynita is a member of the Mountain Brook Art Association, Alabama Plein Air Artists, Oil Painters of America  and Portrait Society of America where she is the Ambassador for the state of Alabama. Lynita's paintings have won a number of awards and she has been featured in several publications and shows.  When not working on a painting Lynita can be found in her home studio where she shares her passion for art with others by teaching art workshops.

"I paint because it is what I know, what I’m good at, and what I have been doing since 4th grade. It snowballs. Every piece of artwork I create makes me long to do another one. I always feel I have yet to create the “topper,” the best one. It is still waiting to be born. Art, good art, has a certain mystery about it that draws me, that causes me to stare at it, study it, digest it. It can satisfy like a good meal. Perhaps this is because it gives me just a glimmer of the beauty and satisfaction found in the ultimate Creator."     Lynita Motes
